Is it worth paying for Xero?

Short answer: For invoices and quotes as PDFs, sent from your own email, probably not. Xero's entry plan, Ignite, caps you at 20 invoices a month, and it is an accounting service: worth paying for if you need bank reconciliation, payment tracking, reports or to share the books with an accountant. The free generator here has no monthly limit, saved templates with automatic numbering, extra columns and a real PDF to email.

Where the paywall sits

Xero sells invoicing as part of its accounting plans. On Ignite, its entry plan, Xero says: "For more than 20 invoices, see the Grow plan", and the limit covers both approving and sending invoices. See the current Australian plans for prices. Other invoice apps draw the line in similar places: Invoice Home's free plan stops at $1,000 invoiced in 30 days, and Invoice Ninja's free plan at 5 clients (each on its own pricing page, October 2026).

When paying might still make sense

Consider accounting software if you need automatic bank feeds, reconciliation, recurring invoices sent on a schedule, customer payment links, automatic reminders, business reports or shared records. This generator does not send email from its own server, collect payments, lodge tax returns, maintain a ledger or back up your documents. Keep your PDFs, and export your templates if you change browsers.

How this one stays free

It runs entirely in your browser. There is no server to pay for, nothing is uploaded, and the code is open source. There is nothing to cancel because there was nothing to sign up for.
