Is it worth paying for DocuSign?

Last reviewed September 2026. Pricing and plans change; check DocuSign's own site for current figures.

Short answer: Not for signing something you already have. DocuSign is a service for sending documents to other people and collecting their signatures with an identity trail, and that is what its subscription buys. If a lease, a form or a permission slip has landed in your inbox as a PDF and you just need your signature and a date on it, the free tool here does that in your browser with nothing uploaded.

Where the paywall sits

Signing a document someone sends you through DocuSign is free. The paid plans are about sending: after a few free envelopes you pay per month for the right to request signatures from others, with tiers by volume and features.

The confusion is that people search for DocuSign when what they actually need is to put their own signature on a PDF. The free web tools that fill that gap usually cap you at a couple of tasks a day, add a watermark, or require an account, and every one of them uploads your document to do it. Your lease, your ID, your contract, on someone else's server.

When paying might still make sense

How this one stays free

It runs entirely in your browser. There is no server to pay for, nothing is uploaded, and the code is open source. There is nothing to cancel because there was nothing to sign up for.
